Functional Area Description

WWPS is responsible for ensuring the safety of our medicines: pharmacovigilance and pharmaco-epidemiology deliverables including single case and aggregate safety monitoring, safety reporting, contribution to benefit-risk assessment, risk management planning and strategy, execution of certain post-marketing commitments and ensuring compliance with global regulatory requirements.

PV PELS mission is to develop and implement effective learning strategies and set process standards for the global WWPS organization which enables the delivery of innovative pharmacovigilance and risk management initiatives that help patients prevail over serious diseases.

Position Summary / Objective

The Instructional Designer will play a crucial role in the PV PELS team, responsible for developing and enhancing training materials to ensure WWPS is well-equipped with the knowledge and skills necessary for effective pharmacovigilance activities.

The primary objective is to design, develop, and deliver engaging and effective learning solutions that align with regulatory requirements, industry standards, and organizational goals.

In addition to instructional design, the role will involve collaborating with the Business, Capabilities and Excellence (BCE) group on communications development, fostering effective knowledge dissemination across WWPS and BMS.

Position Responsibilities

  • Content Development: Collaborate with subject matter experts to create instructional materials, including e-learning modules, training manuals, and multimedia presentations, ensuring alignment with pharmacovigilance best practices and compliance standards.

  • Curriculum Design: Contribute to the development of comprehensive training curricula that cover a range of pharmacovigilance topics, catering to different learning styles and levels within WWPS.

  • Instructional Strategies: Employ diverse instructional strategies, such as scenario-based learning, simulations, and interactive activities, to enhance engagement and knowledge retention.

  • Copywriting, Scripting, and Storyboarding: Execute copywriting, scripting, and storyboarding for learning experiences in online and hybrid courses, ensuring content is compelling, clear, and aligns with instructional goals.

  • Continuous Improvement: Regularly review and update existing training materials to reflect changes in regulations, industry trends, and organizational processes, ensuring content remains current and relevant.

  • Learning Technology Integration: Utilize learning management systems (LMS) and other educational technologies to deliver, track, and assess training effectiveness.

  • Evaluation and Assessment: Implement assessment tools to measure the impact and effectiveness of training programs, gathering feedback and making data-driven improvements.

  • Collaboration: Work closely with cross-functional teams across WWPS, to ensure training and communication materials align with organizational goals and objectives.

  • Communications Development: Leverage instructional design expertise and adult learning principles to contribute to the development of internal and external communications content for multimedia/multichannel delivery, ensuring effective and engaging dissemination of information within and external to WWPS.

Degree Requirements

Bachelor’s degree required preferably in instructional design or Bachelor’s degree and several years of digital learning design experience with a focus on adult learning principles. Advanced degree or certification in Instructional Design is a plus.

Experience Requirements

  • Minimum of 3 years of instructional design experience, preferably in the pharmaceutical or healthcare industry.

  • Proven experience in designing and delivering effective e-learning solutions.

  • Strong project management skills, with the ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously.

  • Familiarity with pharmacovigilance principles, regulations, and industry guidelines.

Key Competency Requirements

  • Instructional Design Expertise: Extensive knowledge and experience creating learner experiences using innovative digital design technologies to develop e-learning, mobile learning, virtual instructor led learning, and video/audio productions.

  • Technology Proficiency: Proficient in using authoring tools, graphics packages, video and Sound editing tools (e.g., Adobe Captivate, Articulate, Articulate 360 Storyline and Rise, Adobe Creative Suite, XML, SCORM, HTML5, etc.)

  • Collaboration and Communication: Excellent communication and collaboration skills to work effectively with subject matter experts and cross-functional teams.

  • Analytical Skills: Ability to assess training needs, analyze data, and continuously improve training programs based on feedback and performance metrics.

  • Adaptability: Flexibility to adapt to changes in regulations, industry trends, and organizational priorities, ensuring training materials remain current and effective.
